Bone Densitometry
Bone Densitometry
What is CT Bone Densitometry?
A bone mineral density scan is a short, painless scan that measures the density (strength) of your bones, usually at the hip and spine. The result from this test is called a T-score.
Your GP will first assess your risk factors for osteoporosis, which include your age, medical history and lifestyle factors, before referring you for a test.

What type of bone density scan does Envision offer?
Envision’s new QCT bone mineral density (BMND) software now offers you state of the art, precision, hip and spine bone densitometry using low dose CT instead of the older, more cumbersome 2D DEXA machine scanners.
A Computed Tomography (CT) combines special X-ray equipment with powerful computers to produce multiple cross-sectional images of the inside of your body.
The QCT is more accurate for lumbar spine prediction of fractures as it ignores any bone overgrowth or non-bone calcification – i.e. the aorta and measure trabecular bone not cortical bone in the spine – a good Osteoporosis predictor!
