At Envision Medical Imaging, we believe that patient care should come first, whether you are undergoing a digital X-ray, a CT scan, an ultrasound scan, an MRI scan or any advanced interventional procedure. This philosophy includes minimising patient radiation exposure from medical imaging. At Envision, we are proud to offer our patients cutting-edge CT technology with uncompromised image quality and up to 60% radiation dose reduction.
What is a Computed Tomography (CT) scan?
More commonly known as a CT scan, this diagnostic technology combines powerful computers with special X-ray equipment to produce multiple cross-sectional images of the inside of your body. During CT imaging, an x-ray tube (our CT has two tubes) rotates around the patient so that multiple images are collected from many angles and are stored and analysed to create a new image with the overlying structures removed. The radiologist and other physicians are able to identify internal structures and see their shape, size, density and texture.
This detailed information can be used to determine if there is an abnormality as well as the extent and exact location of the abnormality, and other important details. The image can also show if no abnormality is present.
CT has many uses including angiograms, detailed investigation of the lungs, body organs and glands, and can also be used to guide injections.
Because CT images are very high resolution, they allow us to provide a clear and accurate diagnosis to your doctor. A CT generates up to 2000 images per scan, allowing our specially trained doctors to carefully review these images and often reconstruct 3D images to aid in the report.
What makes Envision Medical Imaging different?
The Envision clinic in the Perth suburb of Wembley is the only private practice with the new state of the art Siemens Somotom Force CT which completes a study in less than a second, at an even lower dose, providing better image quality in a fraction of the time. What we continue to do is provide high quality interpretation by specialists who are experts in their field.
We choose Siemens CT scanners because they include control mechanisms that automatically adjust the radiation dose level to the patient’s anatomy, keeping dose to a minimum. It is similar to a highly sophisticated camera’s automatic exposure mode and delivers optimum low dose with high quality images.
Another feature is the turbo flash mode which allows us to perform ultra-low dose Chest CTs at a comparable radiation dose to a Chest X-ray. It also keeps doses for Coronary Angiograms under 1mSv as a dose.
Another reason why Envision has chosen the Siemens Somotom Force is the fact that it is only scanner that has two x-ray tubes and detectors which allows quality dual energy scanning. This means that instead of having one rotating tube, it has two. This allows huge dose reduction to the patient as well as quicker more accurate scanning of cardiac anatomy, characterisation of renal stones, reduce metal artefacts and is most useful in the accurate and non-invasive diagnosis of gout.
So if you need a CT scan, know that with Envision’s advanced CT technology, along with specialist radiologists and caring and professional staff, you are in safe hands.
